Millions of Americans have received their stimulus check, are you one of them? Estimated 30 to 35 million of Americans are wondering: why haven’t got my stimulus check yet?
It’s reasonable to be anxious. Multiple reasons can lead to the delay. Here we listed 5 reasons.
You are not qualified
According to IRS, taxpayers likely won’t qualify for an Economic Impact Payment if any of the following apply:
You do not have any qualifying children and your adjusted gross income is greater than
$198,000 if your filing status was married filing jointly
$136,500 for head of household
$99,000 for all other eligible individuals
Other scenarios may also cause you not getting a stimulus check, for example, you are claimed as dependent by your parents; you don’t have a social security number that’s valid for employment; you filed Form 1040-NR or Form 1040NR-EZ, Form 1040-PR or Form 1040-SS for 2019.
Your payment is scheduled for later in the year
Hundreds of millions of Americans need that money. It’s not easy to send money to everyone. While the IRS already sent out 159 million payments in June 3, there are more to go. The IRS estimated that it could take more than 20 weeks to send every payment. You can check your payment status here: Check My Payment Status
The IRS doesn’t have your bank information
Some of you may not have bank accounts. For those who have, sometimes it could be wrong.
The IRS said that the banking information they use are from your 2018 to 2019 tax return. Some taxpayers may have changed the banking information. If you had tax preparers, these tax preparers may set up temporary accounts for their clients. If so, the agency said the payment will be returned and reprocessed.
Your bank had trouble processing the payment
It’s possible that your bank has trouble transferring the money. If so, the payment will return to the IRS and will be mailed to the most current address you file, either from a 2018-2019 tax return or one from the postal service.
You may have been scammed
More and more scams are happening recently. Many scammers are looking to steal your stimulus check. It is also possible that you are a victim of identity theft.
Anyway, this year is not easy for everyone. Hoping you all get your payment and have a good life.
